My 90 year old mother is living in her own home, but not managing well and we want to get her more support? Where do I begin?

This often can be a very overwhelming time for families, but knowing where to start and some initial steps will point you in the right direction. If your mother is not managing well with the basics of daily living, i.e. bathing, dressing, and mobility we suggest connecting with the North Shore Home and Community Care intake line at 604-986-9711 to see if she is eligible for an assessment through VCH. Often this will take some time to get set up so if the family is unable to care for the senior at the current time, we suggest hiring some private care support short-term or long-term, as needed. There are many companies who offer care support on the North Shore and we have a list of some options through our Seniors One Stop Navigation Centre and in our In Home Services brochure. Please call us at 604-982-3302 to get a free copy of this great resource.

Our Seniors One Stop team can also book an appointment time for you to come in or call you back with other resources that you may need, whether that is prepared meals, home modification and equipment, medical alert services, information or other resources depending on your personal needs. Our service is free and confidential and we would be happy to help you in any way we can.
